420s

The 420 dinghy is a popular two-person sailing boat designed for youth and amateur sailors seeking to develop racing and teamwork skills.

First introduced in 1959 by French designer Christian Maury, the 420 is named after its length of 4.2 meters. It features a planing hull, centerboard, trapeze, and a spinnaker, making it both exciting and educational for sailors learning advanced techniques.

Widely used in sailing clubs and schools around the world, the 420 is recognized by World Sailing and serves as a stepping stone for competitive classes like the 470.

We are lucky to have a fleet used for school teams racing, that can also be hired through BOP Sailing Academy Trust, by qualified sailors for the Sunday Centreboard Series.
