Commodore's Comments

The keeler division drew the short straw with the wind again this week. Fifteen boats were on the start line on Sunday but not one made it to 17 where racing was abandoned. Good to see a good number of sailors supporting the bar after the race.

I was sorry to hear that Mike Batchelor is in hospital. Rumour has it that he is fairly bored and would welcome visitors. If you plan on visiting Mike, give Cathy Knowles a call or email (cathy@knowles.co.nz or 021 1007177, or 5769857 ) and she will be able to tell you where he is.

There was a good crowd at the yacht club last Friday night as Sailability had a ‘thank you’ night for their volunteers. There was a fairly significant software problem with the ordering system for the meals to the kitchen. When meals were ordered the table number was not sent with the order. This, coupled with some new staff, meant that there was some longer than acceptable waits for drinks and meals. We apologise for this and Jo is working with her team to address this.

Many congratulations to the team representing TYPBC at the Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta. I hear they had a successful time and won some trophies. I look forward to reading their report in an upcoming newsletter.

Centreboard Sailing continues this Sunday with the Steve’s Marine Winter Series.  I can report that La Rochelle made it to Fiji okay. It took them about a week and I hear they had to motor the last three days once the wind died.

Good sailing.

Nick Wrinch
