Commodore's Comments

The Starling Nationals are taking place at Worser Bay in Wellington this week. We have a team of 9  sailors taking part in the 102 boat fleet. The first two days were dominated by heavy wind and Day 3 was the complete reverse. Leading TYPBC competitor at this stage is Lachlan Dillon in 7th but there is a long way to go yet. Good luck to everyone for the remainder of the regatta.

Joel Kennedy represented the Club in the Starling Match racing last weekend – the light winds did not favour Joel but he finished 9th and enjoyed the experience – well done to him.

For further updates of the Starling Nationals keep an eye on our Facebook page where Tina Kennedy is our reporter on the spot or check out the Worser Bay website http://results.wbbc.org.nz/

Keelers had a good Closing Day race last weekend out to Karewa and back with 10 boats on the starting line. Well done to Ben Bax and the team on Manxman for winning on handicap, closely followed by The Rascal, and then Truxton.

One of the problems we have at the Club is people thinking they have the right to store their centreboard boats at the Club. Priority for boat storage is given to the kids who are unable to drive and transport their boats to the Club and also to the likes of the Tornadoes which are a challenge when it comes to transportation. From time to time we have new boats which turn up unannounced – we have no idea who they belong to and what to do with them.  Last year a laser was nearly sold before someone turned up after many months complaining it had been removed! Now another laser has appeared which will shortly be removed. If you wish to discuss leaving a boat on site then please talk to the Office and they will put you in touch with the people who can advise you. But in general we do not have sufficient space for adult-sailed boats to be stored on site.

BOPSAT have published their annual report this week. I enjoyed reading it and you can read it too at http://www.bopsat.org.nz/vdb/document/92

Windsurfer Nationals will be taking place at the Club this weekend so hopefully we will have some good breeze for that.

Good sailing everyone.

Missing Icom radio

Another onne of our new ish ICOM radio's is missing from the radio room downstairs, If any knows where this is or can shed some light on where it might be can you please let the Office know. We found the 1st missing ICOM radio which appears to have been put on someones car roof and then through the laws of gravity forcibly embedded in the gravel, so sad to say it is not repairable.

Keelers report - karewa series

10 keelers and several multihulls lined up for the Closing Day race around Karewa Island on Sunday 15th. A slightly early start time of 12.00 to catch the last of the outgoing tide ensured a quick exit from the harbour. The SE breeze was around 8 to14 knots which dropped throughout the day to produce a pleasant sail around the course.
Despite the good conditions, a technical problem with Frenzy’s prod just after A Beacon brought about their retirement, a pity, as it would have been a great gennaker ride to Karewa which only took around an hour and a quarter for the first boats. Kaimai Express sailed superbly to take line honours from Truxton with Manxman getting first on handicap from The Rascal.
All in all, a pleasant way to end the summer season. The Winter Series starts in about a month on May 13th, have nice break and we’ll see you there on the start line.
AGM’s and prizegiving are happening in May so pencil the appropriate dates into your calendar.

Hey all! Congrats to all of the sailors who represented TYPBC this past week at the Starling Nationals in Wellington. All of our sailors did us very proud, with our top sailor Lachlan Dillon finishing in 7th place overall. Well done!

Registration is now open for our Winter Sailing Program, please check out our website for the winter schedule as we will not be doing every group every weekend. We will have 3 different groups, Term 2/3 Opti Race, Term 2/3 Starling/P, and Term 2 Saturday Sailing for the Level 2/3 group. You can sign up online here:  for the schedule and registration link.

Next Saturday, April 28th, BoPSAT will be hosting an O’Pen Bic Demo Day for everyone to try out the Bic class of dinghy from 1pm-4pm. Hope to see you there!
