Commodore's Comments

Nice work by the crews who took part in the Coastal Classic last weekend. First TYPBC boat was Manxman (20th Monohull and 3rd in division), followed by Frenzy (33rd Mono, and 10th in div), and Open Country (75th mono, and 6th in Div), and Whistler (79th mono, 6 in Div). Well done to all of them. 127 monohulls started the race.

Several boats headed up to Gt Mercury for the Legends regatta held by the MMYC. Races were held in some strong breezes – I don’t know all the results but I hear The Rascal (Ross Currie) had a pretty successful time.

It was also a good weekend for Sam Meech winning his first World Cup Regatta in Gamagori in Japan. Sam went into the medal race guaranteed a silver but did enough to come out on top.
A good result for Tom Saunders as well finishing 8th. Nice to see two TYPBC sailors fighting it out in a medal race of a World Cup Regatta. The NZL 49er crews had a good regatta too, with the kiwi crews finishing 5th, 6th and 7th. Trent Rippey and sailing partner Josh Porebski ended up in 6th. Well done to all these guys.

No centreboard racing last weekend but the keelers had a good night last night with plenty of wind about. The MH decided wisely that the wind was a little strong for them.  It was a low tide night so not many options for the course setters with most divisions heading up the western channel and enjoying a nice spinnaker run back. Division 1 results are still subject to protest, I believe, but in the meantime well done to the crews of Time Warp, Voodoo Lounge, Flashback, and Wani.

The first of the Friday Night Fun Races starts this weekend (1800hrs) – always a great way to begin the weekend.

Multihulls and Centreboarders are racing on Sunday.

Have a great sailing weekend.

Nick Wrinch

Keeler News

Low tide made things interesting in last night’s Wednesday Summer Series Race 5. Both Frenzy and Otway 3 managed to find the bottom around Mark 6 which shallows up only two boat lengths away from the mark. Please note that as there is so little room around Mark 6 at low tide Mark 6 will be replaced by P7 for all courses in the future.

Last night’s race was held in Westerly Winds around 15 to 25 knots with Division 1 and 2 boats heading up to 12 West and Division 3 and 4 boats to 10 West. The long upwind leg gave some passing lanes – especially for those boats who worked out we were still pushing tide. Yachts in the last half of the fleet were disadvantaged with dying winds and the turn of the incoming tide. Line honours in Division 1 went to Time Warp, Division 2 Voodoo Lounge and Division 3 Fly Away Sam. Division 1 handicap placings were Time Warp, Sniper and Kaimai Express. Division 2 handicap placings were Voodoo Lounge, Red Line and Reloaded. Division 3 handicap placings were Flashback, Freedom Express and Farr South. Well done!

Information wanted

We have had an email asking if anyone could shed some light on who use to own this boat in the Photo, It is a 1990 31ft Shoalcraft and they believe it use to belong to a yacht club member a few years ago. The new owners do not know the name of the old owners but would love to get in touch with them and find out some more about the history of their boat, in particular the designer and builder.

Any help would be great, please contact Richard on richard.finlayson@fphcare.co.nz
