Commodore's Comments
There is plenty going on behind the scenes as we build up to the new Sailing Season with Opening Day on Sunday. Remember that Brunch will be served from 9.30am.  Please contact the Office to reserve your tickets (Adults $10, Under 15’s $7.50). The Keeler season kicks off at 1300 with their Opening Day race, and it is also the first day of the Summer Series for the Centreboard division.
Three divisional committees were meeting on Tuesday night making plans for the new season. I was at the Keeler Division meeting and there are some short term problems ahead since many of the marks that we have observed or rounded over the years are in the process of either being moved, removed or renumbered. Essentially the whole numbering system for the eastern end of the harbour is being revised. Therefore it has been decided that the new Sailing Instructions for keelers,  trailer yachts, and multihulls will not be available this Sunday and their publication may be
delayed until the Harbourmaster has made the changes.
We will begin the season by operating under last season’s  Sailing Instructions and courses, which is unfortunate but the best solution in the short term. An official notice will be emailed to skippers, be placed on the website and be posted in the Clubhouse.
The Calendar and Year Book are being printed this week and will be available this Sunday. Make sure you pick up your year book - don’t panic if we run out, we will have more printed.   I would like to thank Gun Caundle for the huge amount of work that he has put into the production of both publications, a fantastic contribution.
WOW are gearing for the new season and I know that Delwyn is keen to hear from skippers willing to have their boats used in the WOW series on Thursday nights beginning October 27th  (with a registration night on October 6th).
Keeler racing begins with the Opening Day race, followed by the A Beacon – Mayor Island race on Sat 24th, and then the Summer Series racing on Wednesday nights starts on September 28th – only about two weeks away.  We are always pleased to hear of anyone keen to help in the Tower this season on Wednesday nights. If you are interested email me at  commodore@yacht.org.nz  and I will pass your details on to Bruce Harrison.
For those who would like a greater knowledge of flares, there will be a demonstration in front of the Yacht Club at 6.30pm on Saturday, run by Tauranga Volunteer Coastguard. (More details at http://sunlive.co.nz/news/135119-flares-to-light-up-night-sky.html ).
See you on Sunday!

city to surf

We have the city to surf event happening on the 25th of this month at our club. This is a good opportunity for the club to earn much needed funds. On the Sunday we need people for registration 8am to 10.30pm and to Marshall 9.30 to 12noon. So we need volunteers to put there names down for one of these. This is a fun thing to do with racing on straight after (note no racing till this task is complete). Most of the club will be helping - many hands make light work. Also there is the bag packing on Saturday afternoon 2pm to 4pm which I am hoping WOW and the keelboat division can play a bigger part. I will be coming around on sailing opening day to recruit and explain how painless this is.

Please contact gregwindcatcher@gmail.com for availability
