Commodore's Comments

Last weekend the front lawn of the club was full of action Saturday with some awesome sailing conditions and Sunday with the Steve’s Marine Winter Series. On Saturday the windsurfing families and their youth sailors did a great job of the wind surf have a go day. It is good to see the renewed enthusiasm for windsurfing in the club. Also it was good to see more than 20 sailors out training with coaches in the afternoon.
Sunday racing again had a great turnout including sailors coming from Hamilton and Taupo again. Thanks to our youth coaches again the green fleet had good support on the water during the racing.

Don Manning from Wellington Sailability gave a very interesting talk at the club on Friday evening on the Sailability for disabled programme he has set up in Wellington and the very popular and successful courses he manages down there.
Don meet with a group of club members who are interested to see how a similar programme could work here and alongside our club and facilities.
It is nice to see we have a group of volunteers interested in making this happen in Tauranga. There is a lot to work through and there will be plenty of help needed to get this going and be successful in the future. If you would like to be involved or know anyone who would be interested please contact Peter Dallimore who is the interim Chairperson along with Dave Burss when he returns from overseas soon.

Nice to see team NZ still at the top of the leader board after a tough 6th Louis Vuitton Regatta in Chicago. The coverage has been awesome and pretty mind blowing to see how these boats get around the course. Tem NZ suffered a capsize in training the day before racing! Lucky Pete Burling is a good swimmer! This Sunday at 1300 hrs. Sees the start of the Burnsco Winter Series race 3 for Keelers, Trailer yachts and Multihulls.

Keelers Winter series

Race 3 of the Burnsco Marine Winter Series is on this Sunday starting at 1300hrs and race action can be followed on the RaceQs link, Click here or follow the link on our website.

Some boats are also in need of extra crew, Contact the office or Andy for details.

patrol boat course

Due to the large amount of interest in this course on the 25th of June we have too many people and not enough space, Greg is having computer trouble and will be in touch as soon as he can. There will be another course running in September for those that miss out on this one and also those that may be interested in attending.

Information needed

Someone seems to have parked a rather sad looking Noelex Trailer Yacht "Silent Runner" in the TYPBC parking area. The space is already allocated to someone and Silent Runner needs to be removed so the allocated person can park their boat back in there.

 Wanted for 'cafe' highet'

Do you have an 'Airport' / Large flask or something similar you no longer require?

The Centreboard Division are currently looking for a large flask (to replace the one that accidently got broken on the weekend).

Being able to operate Cafe' Highet on a cold winter's day has become a ritual to help keep all the parents on the water (including Warren) warm and hydrated.

Donated Flasks can either be left in the Centreboard room or handed to a CB member to bring along next time.

Sailability tauranga

Get used to hearing about this folks because it's on the way! Led by BoPSAT and with the support from past, present and future Commodores, along with numerous other groups, planning has begun to bring a sailing programme for people with disabilities to Tauranga.

The buzzword around the traps is "exciting!". Friday night saw an excellent talk by Don Manning who heads up Sailability Wellington. A number of people registered expressions of interest in the project and Sunday afternoon saw a demo of gear by Sailability Rotorua and a planning meeting in which a steering committee was formed and a number of initial decisions made.

There's a lot to do ahead of our first Have A Go Day which we hope will be early next Summer, and much more in order to set the programme up sustainably for the long term. We'll be looking for a big team of volunteers, who will gain skills and qualifications, and a very rewarding experience.

Below is some information about the proposed Bylaws.
POINTS TO NOTE...
1. Moving Exclusion Zone around ships entering the harbour, this will stop Wednesday night racing
2. New Ski Lane NW of the wharf at Panepane, where we all anchor.
3. Registration of Jetskis; you will be next
4. Naming of boats
5. Compulsory Life jackets

There is a process for an online submission or you can download the submission and post it.
There will need to be some who present a verbal submission but the more written submissions the better. If you do not act you may lose your rights to use the harbour.

WHO CAN MAKE A SUBMISSION?

Anyone or any organisation can make a submission on any part of the proposed Navigation Safety Bylaw. A submission form can be completed online, or downloaded or hard copies can be collected from our Rotorua, Whakatane, Tauranga or Mount Maunganui offices. You can also request a hard copy by phoning 0800 884 880. Submissions are open until 5pm on Thursday 7 July.
If on your submission form you indicate you would like to be heard at a hearing, please note these are being held on Friday 22 July, Monday 25 July and Tuesday 26 July. Venues will be confirmed closer to the time depending on where the majority of people wishing to be heard reside.
