  Keeler News

Last nights race was out to A Beacon and back. A northerly breeze of more than 15 knots picked up for a while only to die back down just as yachts were trying to get back in the harbour with an outgoing tide. The outgoing tide caught some boats out on the start line with a few over the line resulting in individual recalls. Some boats were keen enough to have a couple of goes at getting back over the line to re-start. The main channel was a bit messy on the way out with a short chop resulting in some wet crew! See the Club’s website for the results.

The Whitianga race is this Saturday. Briefing is a 0700 hrs at the Clubhouse with a planned start time of 0800 hrs outside the Club. At the time of writing the forecast is for a SE breeze of somewhere between 10 and 20 knots – so we should see some good times to Whitianga! A few Whitianga boats will be competing too. All skippers will have received the “race pack” by email. Please note that we are trying for the first time a finish between Centre Island and Round Island with Centre Island to port. Don’t forget!

Some boats will carry on up the coast after the Whitianga race to compete in the Auckland to Tauranga race on Saturday 3rd February. We should have about 20 yachts competing at this stage – a pretty good turnout. The long-range forecast is for North Easterly breezes of 10 knots – but once again we will have to wait and see!

See you out there.
