Commodore's Comments

Well the weather gremlins are having their say with the International Paints Auckland Tauranga Race which was due to start from the RNZYS at 10am on Thursday morning. With the remnants of Cyclone Cook being virtually on top of us about then, they have decided to postpone the race start till tomorrow morning at 9am.  Vice Commodore Andy Knowles along with Roger Rushton, and the Squadron’s Colin Lucas are the team who will make the difficult call of when to start the race.

Thanks, in advance to the organising committee and to everyone who will be trying to make the event a success.

Other racing going on this weekend includes the Optimist Nationals which are taking place at Napier. When I last heard, up to 10 boats are going from the Club, which is a great turn out. Meanwhile at Wakatere on the North Shore, the Starling Nationals are taking place with 3 or 4 TYPBC boats taking part. Good luck to all of them.

Good luck too to one group who have been looking at the weather forecast with excitement this week – these are the windsurfers who have their nationals this weekend at Takapuna. They are looking forward to a bit of breeze and some good waves.

Last weekend a group of Starling and Optimist sailors headed off to Maraetai as a warm up to their respective Nationals over Easter. We had 3 Starling Sailors sailing in a fleet of 32 and 4 Opti Open Sailors in a fleet of 29. In the Starling fleet Joel Kennedy finished 10th overall; Josh Blackie finished 19th; and Jack Towers finished 24th.  In the Optimist Open Sydney Cunliffe finished 8th overall; Lachlan Dillon finished 8th; Max Scott finished 13th; and Anya Pearce finished 16th. Well done everyone!

Good luck to all our sailors competing in the above racing this weekend - good sailing and stay safe out there.

Good Sailing

Coaches Corner

Congrats to all the sailors who completed their levels this week as Term 1 came to a close! This term saw so many sailors working crazy hard to achieve their levels, with a little bit of goofiness thrown in. There was so much improvement from so many kids and adults in Learn to Sail over the past couple months, which was really amazing to see! We had all weather, from super hot with no wind to chilly and blowing over 25 knots, and everyone got to experience a good variety of weather on the water.

Please remember to sign up for your next course as soon as possible! Our Easter Holiday course runs from April 24-28th for Level 1, 2, 3, and Green Fleet, and the deadline to sign up is April 17. Spaces are filling up so sign up quickly!

Term 2 courses start on Saturday, April 29th, so please sign up for those as well! They will run for 10 consecutive Saturdays with Blue Fleet from 9:30am-12:30pm and Level 2, 3, and Green Fleet from 1pm-4pm. If you want to do all day Saturday there is a discount!

Adult Learn to Sail also has a course starting April 30th, it runs for 5 consecutive weeks on Sunday with Level 1 running 9:30am-12:30pm and Level 2 and 3 running 1pm-4pm.

Go to our website for more information (http://www.yacht.org.nz/sailingschool) and go here to sign up for courses: https://typbc.coachseek.com/#/booking/selection

For the Easter Holiday Course, select the option that says "Easter Holiday" and the correct level you wish to sign up for. The adult course is under "Adult LTS Level 1" or "Adult LTS Level 2".

Can't wait to see you out on the water!
