Commodore's Comments

On Saturday the TYPBC hosted the Finn North Island Champs. Conditions on Saturday were a bit stormy but Sunday was a great day. Former Tauranga sailor Karl Purdie was the winner for the weekend. Karl sails out of Worser Bay these days but showed he still knows his way around Tauranga Harbour – full results on the website.

Centreboarders also had their latest Summer Series races on Sunday with two races being held before the wind died out.

There was a good fleet of keelers out for the Wednesday night racing this week but unfortunately the wind gods weren’t on our side. Boats struggled to cross the start line before a light breeze settled in and races were able to be completed over shortened courses. Full results on the website or Facebook page.

This weekend sees the first of the Karewa Series races on Sunday. This will be in the form of a joint race with the Mount Club. Keelers will start from the Club at the normal time and an adjustment will be made for those starting from the Mount. Everyone is invited back to the Mount Club rooms afterwards.

Meanwhile the centreboarders continue their Summer Series, and Good luck to the Zephyr sailors and any others heading across to Rotorua for the Rotorua Sprint Regatta.

Sailability has their trial sailing day on Saturday 22 October. Sas and the team will be putting some wheelchair rugby players into boats as guinea pigs. Sailability is still keen for more volunteers to join the team and this is a good opportunity to give it a look (contact sailabilitytauranga@gmail.com)

Good sailing this weekend.

NEWS

Wednesday night Sailing

The westerly wind that greeted the Summer Series Race 3 decided to fade away for the first start making it difficult to make progress against the outgoing tide.

The multis decided to abandon the race which brought about a small wind increase from the NW allowing the keeler fleet to progress with a shortened course in the 10W area for some. A difficult job for the race management but in the end all divisions finished despite several boats discovering the shallow areas of the harbour.

Kaimai Express taking line and handicap in Div.1, Redline had an amazing race for the same result plus it had the shortest elapsed time of the whole fleet, High Point did well in its first race of the season to win on handicap and Mintaka winning on handicap in Div.4.

Andy

a special thank you

After many years of dedication to the tower on a Wednesday and Friday Night Bruce Elder and Bob Shaw have decided it's time to retire. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them both very much for all their time and hard work.
