Commodore's Comments

The Tornado Worlds in Lindau, Germany have wrapped up with a good result from TYPBC sailors Bill Caunce and Aaron Duncan. It was great to see the pair make the big trip to Europe to compete in what looked like a great regatta with some awesome sailing on Lake Constance. Bill and Aaron finished 12th overall with a best place of 4th in a fleet of 29 of top Tornado sailors from around the world. Visit the website and see full results here: http://tornadoworlds-2016.lsc.de/
Also see the kiwis in the Worlds video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxSmDvd1qt0

The Burnsco Winter Series fleet had a very nice SW breeze for the race last Sunday. A spinnaker start saw the 5 catamarans get away quickly with Phil Scherer and Tom Maidment leading the pack to win on line and corrected time by a good margin.
Meanwhile in the Keelers, Red Line nailed the start and led the fleet with big break for a good part of the race. Whatever came through to finish 1st, Time Warp 2nd and Sniper 3rd on line. On corrected it was Candela 1st, High point 2nd and Red Line 3rd.  See the full results on our web site.

Aims Games Yachting is coming to the TYPBC again on the 3rd to the 6th September. Entries closed last week seeing 80 year 7 and 8 Optimist sailors entered to do battle. This year we have a big increase in competitors for yachting and Aims Games across all codes have seen the same. To date record competitor entries of 9135 from 270 schools from around NZ including some internationals have been received. Quite incredible!
If you would like to help during the event please let me know. Last year we had an awesome time and a very successful regatta thanks to all those who pitched in to help for a few hours, a day or some, for the entire event. We again need plenty of helping hands.

Please see the proposed Bylaw changes being presented for our harbour, sailing area and anchorages in this newsletter. We need as many as possible to read this carefully and make a submission to protect our use of the harbour. Submissions need to be in by 5pm on the 7th July, so don’t delay.

The Saturday sees the training for our Green fleet and open sailors, with racing on Sunday for the Centre boarders. Let's hope the forecast gets better!!

Good sailing.

 Keelers racing

RaceQs coverage for Race 3, unfortunately it didn't record Fast Lane's track which would have shown where the shallow ground is in the Western Channel. I can say that it is quite some distance from 2W but in line with 2W and Banks Buoy and as the tide pushed us up onto the shallowest point it was 1.4m at low tide with deeper water quite close by as other yachts came past but failed to find the peak.

Great pic of Redline over transom of Sniper.

soon to be towed

Someone seems to have parked a rather sad looking Noelex Trailer Yacht "Silent Runner" in the TYPBC parking area. The space is already allocated to someone and Silent Runner needs to be removed so the allocated person can park their boat back in there.

If not removed by FRIDAY 1ST OF JULY 2016 This boat will be towed to Rowe Motors.

If you are the owner or have any information can you please contact the Office or Doug Elliot on 027 469 5343

 notice of agm

aims games

Fast approaching is the 2016 AIMS Games, We will be hosting the Yachting for the 2nd year with around 80 Competitors from 32 Schools. It runs from Saturday the 3rd of September till Tuesday 6th of September 2016. Keep this date in mind and if you can help out for the week let Nigel know.

Sailability tauranga

Get used to hearing about this folks because it's on the way! Led by BoPSAT and with the support from past, present and future Commodores, along with numerous other groups, planning has begun to bring a sailing programme for people with disabilities to Tauranga.

The buzzword around the traps is "exciting!" . Friday night saw an excellent talk by Don Manning who heads up Sailability Wellington. A number of people registered expressions of interest in the project and Sunday afternoon saw a demo of gear by Sailability Rotorua and a planning meeting in which a steering committee was formed and a number of initial decisions made.

Click here and here to see what sailability Tauranga might look like (only warmer and sunnier!)

There's a lot to do ahead of our first Have A Go Day which we hope will be early next Summer, and much more in orser to set the programme up sustainably for the long term. We'll be looking for a big team of volunteers, who will gain skills and qualifications, and a very rewarding experience.

If you would like to volunteer, see a copy of the minutes or just to be kept in the loop, please email me stuart.pedersen@gmail.com

p-class collage
