We run courses all year round! Term 4, Term 1 and during the school holidays. See the information below: 

  • Learn To Sail Course for beginners: Level 1
  • Level 2
  • Level 3
  • Learn To Race "Green Fleet" Courses

Learn to sail in the beautiful Tauranga Harbour with excellent weather and sailing conditions. The course follows the Yachting New Zealand Learn to Sail course guidelines. Kids must be between the ages of 8 and 16 and be able to swim 50 metres confidently to learn to sail. Join the fun!

       Run by a Yachting New Zealand fully qualified instructor 

     The sailors learn on plastic Optimists provided by the Sailing School

     A club boat and PFD is provided in Levels 2 and 3 but you are welcome to bring your own! Wetsuits not provided

     We teach every session. If the weather is not suitable for on water activities, the sailors will have on-land lessons.

 

LEVEL 1 ‘START…SAILING!’ 

TERM 4 and TERM 1: Saturday from 9:30am - 12:00pm and/or from 12:30pm to 3:00pm 

                                     Monday from 4pm-7pm

Cost: Each course has 10 lessons of 3 hours each at a cost of $320

Siblings booked together receive a 10% discount!

LEVEL 2 'Sailing...Fast!' and LEVEL 3 'Go...Racing!'

Register for the Level 2 or Level 3 coaching now and continue improving your sailing and racing skills. You will learn the basics of racing and if you are in the Level 3 course you can join us for the Sunday Club Races. If racing isn't for you, you can work towards joining our Sailing Quidditch League to continue sailing and having fun on the water. Come on board, join the trainings and get ready to sail fast!

The sailors will learn all the YNZ Level 2 and 3 skills and obtain their YNZ certificate when they complete the course!

Sailing Quidditch League

For those who have completed their Level 2 or 3 who want to keep sailing but not race, Sailing Quidditch League is for you! We will have teams and every second week we will have a game of Sailing Quidditch. You are also welcome to do Sailing Quidditch along with the Race Programme for some fun sailing and extra time on the water.

TERM 1: Saturday from 1pm to 4pm

What to bring? - We have some wetsuits, spray jackets and buoyancy aids for new sailors but it's best to invest in your own if you’re really keen to get into sailing. Otherwise, please bring the following:  

 

 

- Dry clothes for after sailing

- Warm clothing (lots of thermal layers or wetsuit if you have one)

- Waterproof jacket

- Hat

- Gloves (cycling gloves can be good too) – not completely necessary but good for grip 

- Booties or shoes to get wet – not completely necessary but good for grip 

- Towel 

- Plastic bag for wet clothes

- Long hair must be tied back and is best covered with a hat 

- Bottle for water to stop dehydration 

- Medication (inhalers, etc.)

- Snacks for after sailing

 

Terms and Conditions  Bookings are essential and spaces are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment!
