RACING: Multihulls have raced with the TYPBC for many years. Back in the '80s and '90s big fleets competed, with boats like the trimarans 'Roxanne' and 'Timberwolf', along with several GBE catamarans and a lot of smaller beach catamarans. At present we are enjoying a resurgeance in numbers. The 3 bigger racing cats, ‘Fully Charged’, a 10.6 metre Tennant design, and two 8.5 metre Great Barrier Express designs,'Gopher Broke' and 'Pussy Cat', are being kept honost by a large number of the beach cats. We have Jason and Terry racing their Nacra 18ft, 'Octane', and Phil and Scott Scherer in the very fast Nacra 17ft, 'Fuel Injected'. Lance Putan's modified A Class, 'Cold Play', is due back on the water after more modifications. Don, on the Ron Given designed Tiger Shark, 'Shadrack', has joined us lately. The latest addition to the fleet is 'Fragile', a Prindle 16ft. At present, there are only two Hobie 16s racing out of about six that are known around the club. We would love to get more boats on the water so come along and join in the fun!
The multihull boats all race together on Wednesday evenings in the Summer Twilight Series starting at the Bridge Marina area known as Town Reach. This year we will have on-the-water starts using the patrol boat, Harry Highet, which will greatly improve our start timing. There is a selection of weekend harbour races on the calendar as well. CRUISING: more, so contact me and let me know. This year there are a number of cruising events on the club calendar as well as some trips up to Katikati being talked about.
