![]() ![]() ![]() The Club provides a wide range of racing opportunities for its members so that they can enjoy some fun and competitive yacht racing irrespective of the size of their yacht or their sailing abilities. Our biggest fleets are for the Summer Series races which are a series of about 20 races through the summer months taking place on a Wednesday evening. Yachts are split into four divisions of similar performing boats ranging in size from small trailer yachts to 40 foot trailer yachts.On alternate Thursdays through the summer, Ladies race in the Women on Water series. This is a hugely popular series of races with separate divisions for the serious racers and the less serious racer/cruisers On alternate Fridays through the summer we have the Friday Night Two Handed. This is open to all sizes of Keeler and Trailer Yachts. At the same time we have a Rum race. A good opportunity to take out workmates and introduce people to the art of sailing. Both are more casual series where spinnakers are not allowed. A wonderful way to end the week and leave all thoughts of work behind!Weekend racing comprises of a wide range of longer races either in the Harbour or out to sea. We haves races around Motuhoa Island, Motiti Island, the Karewa Series which is a series of races around Karewa and back, races to Mayor Is., Schooner Rock, Whitianga, Slipper Rock and even White Island. Our biggest racing event of our calendar is the Auckland to Tauranga race at Easter weekend. This popular race has up to 70 yachts taking part in this challenging race.Racing continues through the winter with our Winter Series which is a series of 8 races held on alternate Sundays from May to August. The safety of competitors and their yachts is taken very seriously at the Club and more experienced members are always willing to offer help and advice. The different levels of racing have different requirements for safety equipment in line with the requirements of Yachting New Zealand. |
