Centreboard - Zephyr PDF Print E-mail

Bob Smyth has been instrumental in the growing resurgence of the NZ classic, the Zephyr.

zephyr_bobThe boat was designed by Des Townsend in 1956 and enjoyed great success in the 1960's with fleets in excess of 100 at National events. The boat is a strict one design with the sails made exclusively at Doyle Sail makers, using the same design as in the 1950's. The owners association still control the building of hulls. Currently there are big fleets in Auckland and Christchurch. We are told 8 boats regularly sail in Hamilton. Martin Stacey and Bob Faulkner have ventured out in their boats however we believe there are still more Zephyrs to see the sunlight.
