The Tauranga Jet Sport Association is part of the Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club and operates from their premises on Keith Allen Drive (Sulphur Point).

The Aims or the Club are to:
Encourage people to take up the sport
Providing training and knowledge for skiiers
Ensuring the availability of Ski Lanes and other facilities
Encouraging competition on a Local & National Basis
Providing a social environment skiers

The club facilities provide storage for equipment, a venue for national racing two or three times a year, a venue for club practice days, ski flushing, toilet and showering facilities, as well as a bar and restaurant at club prices.

The club currently has strong core of members and is growing. Many members take part in summer and winter racing through out the North Island, and the New Zealand Jet Sport Nationals held mid summer each year.

We have also secured a permanent designated jetski area at Papamoa – opposite Royal Palm Beach. This area is 100 meters down the beach from the car park and has ski lane markings. Jetski may operate immediately off the beach in this area and are not required to abide by the 200metres 5 knot MSA ruling. The Club try and take advantage of this area monthly as part of their club days.

The TJSA are in the stages of instigating a social membership in the hope of building up the club and providing great services for those that own watercraft but only want to ride recreationally. This past summer a calendar was distributed (copy attached) to encourage racers, riders and families to come along and enjoy the company, the knowledge and the facilities that the club and its members have to offer.

The summer series consists of 6 rounds of short course racing around bouys, with 4 or 5 heats held at each venue. There are approximately 15 classes based on the type of watercraft, (poleski or runabout), the size of the engine, the experience of the rider, and the amount of modifications.

The winter series consists of 6 rounds of racing – with most of these races being an hour and a half in length, raced in various venues ie lakes, rivers, and open ocean riding. There are 6 classes with the same criteria for these classes as the summer racing.

Most races attract approximately 50 riders from around the North Island. The races are usually held in Wellington, Taupo, Tauranga, Auckland, Rotorua, and Palmerston North. The race days are well attended by Tauranga (last summer we had 18 club members racing on the main Mount Beach in April), well organised, very social, and lots of fun for everyone. We can never have enough helpers and supporters though!
